George White’s “Broadway Scandals” Comes to Stage of Coronado Feb. 14
…The present George White’s “Scandals” is filled with personalities who, before they scored in this stage edition, had been either new to Broadway or occupied with Hollywood films. The galaxy includes Ben Blue and Ella Logan, along with the new dancing meteor, Ann Miller. All flashed high across Broadway in the current Scandals,” as did Collette Lyons, Billy Rayes, Craig Mathues, Kim Loo sisters, Ross Wise, Jr., and the Knight sisters….

Scandals of 1940 Will Linger Long in Rockford’s Memory
Key song of last night’s George White’s “Scandals” performance at the Coronado theater was “Are You having Any Fun?” and if laughter, applause and after-show comment are criteria, then the Rockford audience had plenty of it. Ella Logan’s singing (which is full of “oomph”) pleased almost everyone even if she shouldn’t tease the reticent local audience into singing her famous song with her during the finale. Lovely Ann Miller’s two numbers (too few) drew positive “ohs” and “ahs” and “Isn’t she beautiful?” from theses seated around us. Her “machine gun” tap was especially effective during the Mexiconga number as the four Kim Loo sisters beat drums in the background….

20th Century
Century Theatrical Enterprises, Inc., presents George White’s Scandals, stage revue, with Ben Blue, Ella Logan, Billy Hayes, Craig Mat hues, the Kim Loo Sisters, Ross Wyse, Jr., the Knight Sisters, June Mann, Christine Forsythe, Fred Manatt, Fran English, Leila Hayes, Olga Corey, Elinor Counts and the Scandals girls. RKO-Radio Pictures present Beyond Tomorrow, talking picture drama produced by Lee Garmes, story by Mildred Cram and Adele Comandini, screenplay by Miss Comandini, directed by A. Edward Sutherland, with Harry Carey, C. Aubrey Smith, Charles Winninger, Alex Melesh, Maria Ouspenskaya, Helen Vinson, Rod LaRocque, Richard Carlson, Jean Parker, J. A. Hughes, Robert Homans, Virginia McMullen, James Bush and William Bakewell.
An audience which packs the theater to the doors, claps itself tired as the curtain swishes to a final close and then gets up and walks out humming the hit tunes is sample enough of what Buffalonians think about the coming to town of a streamlined George White’s Scandals which is the feature attraction on the stage of the 20th Century Theater this week. The show was the lure that obviously dragged them through a heat wave to the cool downtown theater yesterday and they left more than pleased, which can only be translated into the fact that this fun emporium has a hit on its hands this week—which should leave both cast and box office mighty happy about the whole thing.
The Scandals is—the Scandals. Which is like saying the Follies is—the Follies. View ’em any way you like and they’re still a potpourri of lovely lassies, sparkling G-strings, precision dancers, a couple of good singers, funny-men in frolic skits, lots of gorgeous scenery, lilting tunes and shapely limbs. There’s no rhyme nor reason to such productions—but then who wants such? This is hot weather and who wants to chew on a plot. You just relax and let the tide of eye and ear entertainment roll in….
…All of which doesn’t mean that Ella Logan and Ben Blue aren’t the stars of the Scandals or merit their top billing. For they do with their ever-remarkable style. Ella sings with gusto plus oomph and Ben is still the same funny fellow who pantomime and antics never have failed to click. There’s Craig Mathues, the Kim Loo Sisters and a cast of cuties such as Buffalo hasn’t seen in a season or two to round out a thoroughly Grade A entertainment.
